Flo’s Little Gardeners: Composting

  • 2647 Melrose Avenue Cincinnati, OH, 45206 United States (map)

Join us for a fun and educational outdoor workshop where families will dive into sustainable gardening through composting and hands-on garden care! In this interactive event, children and caregivers will build their own small compost bins to take home, learning how to turn everyday food scraps, leaves, and garden waste into nutrient-rich soil. As families explore the garden, they’ll identify compostable materials and gain a deeper understanding of the 4R’s – Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, and Rot – and how these practices support healthy ecosystems and the food cycle.

After building their compost bins, families will roll up their sleeves and help care for the garden—watering plants, weeding, and observing plant life cycles up close. These activities offer a meaningful way to reinforce the connection between composting, soil health, and thriving gardens.

This hands-on workshop is a great opportunity to bond as a family, promote eco-friendly habits, and enjoy time outdoors. Please wear clothes that can get messy and bring water bottles to stay hydrated. You’ll leave with practical knowledge, a ready-to-use compost bin, and inspiration to continue your sustainability journey at home!
